Two NNPC Staff Members Killed By Pipeline Vandals
Officials
say the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has lost two
staff members sent to repair the vandalised Benin-Warri and Kaduna-Jos
pipelines.
According
to the statement by the acting spokesperson of the NNPC, Tumini Green,
the pipelines have been restored successfully, and pumping of petroleum
products resumed.
Green condemned the continuous attacks of vandals on pipelines and
affirmed the deaths of the two workers in the Kaduna-Jos incident. No
life was lost in Benin-Warri, where NNPC staff were also repairing
damaged pipelines.
Meanwhile, Nigeria expects the international Chair of the Extractive
Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Clare Short to visit next
week. Short will hold talks with President Goodluck Jonathan on the
implementation of EITI in Nigeria and the wider implications on the oil,
gas and mining sector reforms.
She is also scheduled to have consultations with high-ranking
government officials, the legislature, development partners, the media
and civil society groups in Nigeria’s oil.
