27 lawmakers back Amaechi’s defection to APC

27 lawmakers back Amaechi’s defection to APC
From TONY JOHN, Port Harcourt
The 27 pro-Chibuike Amaechi lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly have pledged their unwavering support to the governor on his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The declaration was made on Friday by Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Leyii Kwanee, while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt.
Kwanee  justified Governor  Amaechi’s defection, saying that his continued stay with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would have been a disservice to Rivers people.
He said that the decision was in the best interest of the state, and the lawmakers would give him the desired support.
“We are with him for the decision he has taken so far. As it relates to the House, we are aware of the relevant sections of the law as relates to, and we will confine and ensure that we do not flout the law, when we also move with the governor. So, rest assured that we are with the governor.”
Kwanee, who represents Khana Constituency II in the Assembly, reminded Rivers people that the governor  was  pushed to the wall and he endured all the persecution because the president comes from his extraction.
Speaking on the dissolution of the Obio/Akpor Local Government, Kwanee stated that the lawmakers were in support of the governor.
The deputy speaker said  Governor Amaechi exercised his constitutional power, saying that aggrieved persons could seek redress in court.
He further said that Rivers people had suffered a lot under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership.
The lawmaker pointed out the case of Soku oil field, which was ceded to Bayelsa State, the security helicopter acquired by Rivers government with approval of Federal Government, which was denied entrance into Nigerian air space and the Rivers aircraft that was grounded by the Aviation Ministry were for political reasons.
Continuing, Kwanee said that the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report, which affected the state, particularly the Ogonis, was treated with disdain, and many other things acruing to the state from the federation were denied by the Federal Government.

Revealed: Sex Between Female Students and Teachers In Nigerian Universities (Photo)

Revealed: S*x Between Female Students and Teachers In Nigerian Universities (Photo)

girl_tins-old-man
In many ways, Nigerian institutions of higher learning are no different from other such institutions around the world: They are confronted with several contending issues such as budget cuts, plagiarism, cheating during exams, alteration of data by researchers, unhealthy rivalry and tension between faculty members and between faculty and administration and between students and other echelons. These are constants within the academic community.
And of course there is the issue of séxual relationship between some students and some of their teachers, and between some students and some members of the administrative staff…
To be sure, there is not a teaching and learning institution anywhere in the world where such — séx between students and faculty and between students and staff — is not a concern. None! What makes the Nigerian context different is the propensity, the frequency and the severity of the aforementioned.Parents send their children to school to learn, no to be harassed and séxually molested. Young men and women come to school to learn and learn how to be contributing members of their immediate and global society. They go to school to learn to be good citizens, good human beings. They go to school to develop many skills – including critical thinking skill. And though many show up in all their naiveté and gullibility, still, it is not a reason or an excuse for them to be taken advantage of. Sadly, these are some of the horrors that happen to many Nigerian students, especially the girls.Sadder is the fact that millions of girls and young women are being abused and exploited on a daily basis. Many are denied their human and civil rights. Many have no access to education, to medical care, or to a caring home and environment. They are the “wretched of the earth.” While there are some shining examples within the Nigerian sisterhood, there could have been several millions more if the Nigerian society had taken its female population more seriously. But we don’t! For the most part, and in many settings, women are things, objects – things and objects to ignore or séxualise. Thinking about it now, I cannot remember which came first: the súgar daddy syndrome or the séxual exploitation of students by staff and faculty members (sometimes referred to as “Bush allowance”). Long before politicians became conquerors and rulers of the maiden and their honey jars — and long before military officers freely roamed the séxual landscape — súgar daddies were the kings.
Súgar daddies paraded and patronised UNILAG, UNIBEN, BUK, UNIPORT, ABU, UI and every Nigerian university and polytechnic and college of education. And in some cases, they snuck into secondary schools and in the process committed r*pe and alarming perversions. Today, the larger Nigerian society does not worry itself with what was initially an aberration. It is now a given. Basically, súgardaddism has now become a practice, part of our cultural milieu.
Tell me: How many women, 17-37 years old, do you know who do not have one or two moneybags as a lover or séx mate? I am sure there are. But they can’t be that many. Poverty and unemployment and the general state of confusion and hopelessness have greatly contributed to the mental and psychical anarchy that now characterises the country. In the minds of many, the kingdom of God can wait. Money is the new paradise. You either have it or you don’t. In many enclaves, if you don’t have it, you don’t matter, you don’t count!
No matter how you look at it, séx between a student and a teacher or an administrator cannot be considered a relationship. This is so because there is an element of abuse and exploitation involved. What’s more, many students – especially secondary school and undergraduates — who are so abused and taken advantage of, may suffer psychological and physical damage.
As many universities in the western world have come to understand, there is “power imbalance between the parties” that makes such a liaison unsound and injurious. The University of Connecticut’s Board of Trustees recently voted against “séxual interactions between students and professors.” Similar measures are in place in many universities.
One does not know what the policies are in Nigerian universities and other institutions of higher learning. What seems clear – very clear – is that a whole lot of r*pe and abuse and exploitation and blackmail are taking place. But really, the complaints are just too many: teachers who demand séx for better class grade and other favours; and teachers who pimp students for financial and non-financial gains. Séx-for-grade or grade-for-séx is indeed a mess, an epidemic that’s been threatening, along with other vexing issues, Nigeria’s educational environment.
To whom do aggrieved female students lodge complaints when many of those in positions of authority are committing the same or similar offence? Do you complain to the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean, the Head of the Department, or to the Faculty Senate? I do not mean to say that the entire rank and file of the Nigerian academics is guilty of these abuses and exploitation. No, not at all! But the fact is that the number of those involved in such inhumanity outweighs the innocent and pious ones.
Are there cases where female students lodged false protests against innocent teachers? Yes, of course! Are there cases where rival teachers used séx to trap and blackmail other teachers? Yes, of course! And are there cases where female students séxually pursued their teachers? Yes, without a doubt! But such incidences are small, very small.
In the end, I wonder if there are academic studies that gauge the impact of séx-for-grade on our educational system, and how they impact the lives of our young women. Even so, these practices and transgressions cannot be good for the country’s culture and educational system. It could be that these injuries cannot be wiped out, but they can be substantially minimised.
No one sends his or her daughter to school to be abused and exploited by depraved minds. Consequently, the learning environment should be a safe and enriching one for all. No society can be great and prosperous if that society refuses to treat her women population with love, respect and dignity. A healthy learning-teaching environment is a human and civil right for all — especially for our young women.

Meet The Sexiest Man in the World [PHOTOS]

Maroon5 lead singer Adam Levine has been named the 2013 Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine. When they say Alive, they mean the USA..:-). Adam is a cute dude no doubt but c’mon, Thor star, Chris Hemsworth (pictured right) is heaven! You can’t even compare…I think he should have won the title. What do you guys think? Adam or Chris, who also made the list…?
Meanwhile, Adam admitted he didn’t see it coming. He tells People in this week’s cover story:
“As a musician, you have fantasies that you want to win Grammys, but I didn’t really think that this was on the table. I was just amazed and stunned and it almost seemed like they were kidding, but they weren’t, so that’s cool.”

Peter Okoye Responds To Wife’s Haters

Peter Okoye Responds To Wife’s Haters

P Square’s Peter Okoye has been getting some negative comment s over his marriage to Lola Omotoya and he took the Opportunity on Sunday to stand by his sweetheart.
He said: “I am very excited today because I am getting married to a very wonderful woman. She is a very strong woman who has stood by me through it all. I know she will make me a happy man.”

Susan Peters’ Famzing, Don Jazzy/Funke Akindele’s Encounter With Area Boys, Paul Okoye’s Gift

What Went Down At Peter Okoye’s Wedding: Susan Peters’ Famzing, Don Jazzy/Funke Akindele’s Encounter With Area Boys, Paul Okoye’s Gift

So these were some of the major activities that happened at Peter Okoye’s traditional weddingwhich held on Sunday.
Yesterday you saw the video of Peter Okoye and Kaffy’s personally dance at the wedding. Well, Peter Okoye didn’t initially plan to dance, it was the MC Gbenga Adeyinka who coerced him into doing so by paying him N10,000.
Peter-Okoye-weds-Lola-Omotayo-Peter-Okoye-dances-copy
According to report, when asked how much he was paid for his first show, Peter answered Gbenga Adeyinka that he was paid N7, 500. The comedian offered to pay Peter N10,000 for him to dance, an offer Peter gladly obliged. After doing a few moves, the rest of the crew (without Paul) joined Peter on stage and danced to their hit song ‘Personally’.
Also, Susan Peters was the ‘famzer’ of the day. If there was any celebrity that took the most photos at the event, it was probably Susan Peters. The actress was seen going round smiling, hugging and making every effort to take a photo with as many celebrities in the hall as she could. She (and Toke Makinwa) practically supplied bloggers with many of the photos on their Instagram pages.
Peter-Okoye-and-Lola-Omotayos-wedding-on-Sunday-November-17-2013-at-the-Ark-Event-Centre-Lekki-92-400x600
Moving on to the guests, Aliko Dangote and Folorunsho Alakija, the richest man and woman in Africa also showed up at the wedding. While Alakija had arrived at the beginning of the occasion and left about an hour later for another event on the mainland, Dangote arrived just a few minutes past 9PM when many of the top dignitaries had left. Abike Dabiri-Erewa was also there to honour the couple.
You see, despite the presence of security personals both from private security firms and men of the police force and armed forces ‘area boys’ made their presence known as they rushed to the car of well-known celebrities and hailed them. Funke Akindele and Don Jazzy attracted the most attention. On his part, Don jazzy threw some crispy naira notes at the area boys which almost led to a stampede as they scrambled for the cash.
Guests and journalists without their invitation cards were bounced and one of those affected was Soni Irabor. Well, ace broadcaster Sonny Irabor was almost refused entry into the venue. Irabor was dropped off at the entrance of the venue by his driver who then drove off to park. As he made to enter, the stern looking security guards who obviously did not recognize him refused him entry because he was without his invitation card. It took about 20 minutes for Irabor’s driver to return with the invitation card.

And then twin brother Paul decided to sing a special wedding song dedicated to his brother and his new wife Lola. Paul invited a few members of their band who obviously were familiar with the tune, for the special acapella rendition of the song. After the song, Paul hugged Peter and said, ‘I’m very proud of you my brother, congratulations.’

In conclusion, the performances were nothing short of exciting. Although there were many music celebrities who attended the event, only a few got to mount the stage to serenade the couple. Some of them were Flavour, KCEE, Iyanya, Banky W, Tiwa Savage, J Martins, Phyno, M.I, Lynxxx, Ice Prince and Naeto C.
