5 Ways to Spend New Year’s Eve When You’re Pregnant

5 Ways to Spend New Year’s Eve When You’re Pregnant

pregnant-water-breaksHere Are Ways to Spend New Year’s Eve When You’re Pregnant
1. Milk & Cookies Party
Take your New Year’s Eve old school — like, elementary old school — with a milk and cookies party. Instead of cocktails, serve homemade milk shakes served in martini glasses. Ask your guests to bring their own favorite cookies for a cookie exchange, and make sure you have freshly baked cookies in the oven. For entertainment, play some old school games like Twister (which is interesting for a pregnant lady, huh?) Pictionary, or Life.
2. Movie Night
Invite your friends over for a night at the movies! Send tickets in lieu of actual invitations, and “collect” the tickets at the door. Line your floor and couches with lots of comfy pillows and serve bowls of movie theater threats: gourmet popcorn in a variety of flavors, jelly beans, and Skittles. Rent or download the latest new release for your screening and, for fun, play a trivia game before you start the movie to give your party the feel or a real movie (previews and all!) A movie night is easy to throw together and is a low-key way to ring in the new year with your feet propped up.
3. PJ Party
This one is for the girls — and could even be a fun way to include the younger crowd. Invite your best girlfriends (especially other pregnant friends or friends with young daughters) to wear their tackiest pajamas — yes, footie pajamas should be encouraged — for a fun, slumber party style fete. Plan to pamper by including manicures, pedicures, and facials. Serve homemade pizza, root beer floats, and ice cream sundaes, and turn on some pop music for an at-home dance party. This event should be fun, laid back, and reminiscent of the more innocent New Year’s Eve parties of your youth. As an added bonus, you can trick someone into painting your toes (you know you can’t reach them anyway!) Worried about the guys? Don’t. There are plenty of games on TV.
4. Chocolate Party
This one is all about the sweet stuff in life. Invite your friends over for a dinner party, and create a menu based around chocolate, from appetizers like chocolate covered potato chips or brie, strawberry, and chocolate grilled cheese to a main course with chocolate flavoring, like this chipotle and chocolate chili. Serve non-alcoholic chocolate martinis and don’t forget plenty of Hershey’s kisses — who doesn’t love kisses at midnight!? Since many pregnant women (including myself) crave chocolate, this is a perfect match.
5. Holiday Babymoon
Looking to get away with your sweetie before your baby arrives? New Year’s Eve is a great time to book a weekend trip or short vacation with your significant other. Many spas, hotels, and B&Bs offer New Year’s Eve special rates and packages, and some even have events to help you ring in the new year without any preparation or planning. One word of caution: some popular destinations book up quickly for New Year’s Eve, so plan accordingly or choose a more out-of-the-way location. After all, it’s who you’re with, not where you are, that really matters.
