How My Sister Sold Me With Pregnancy For N100,000 — Victim

How My Sister Sold Me With Pregnancy For N100,000 — Victim

A 23-year-old pregnant woman, Jennifer Ogbonna, raised the emotion of people recently at Zone 2, Police Headquarters, Abeokuta, Ogun State, when she narrated how her sister tricked her into slavery and sold her off with her 7-month old pregnancy.

She was then transported from Aba to Abeokuta after a couple who allegedly specialized in buying human beings from all parts of the country paid N100,000 to her sister.
My story
The lady who hails from Ebonyi State but lived and worked in Aba narrated her ugly experiences shortly after she was rescued by the Police. She said: “I was brought to Abeokuta by the woman’s husband. I don’t know that they had already paid money on my head. I only got to know in Abeokuta when I overheard the woman and her husband talking about child trafficking and I felt bad. I decided not to eat any of their food. There is one lady in that building, they call her Adeola, she would bring food for me and I would not touch it to the extent that the woman’s husband pleaded with me to eat and still I refused and said I am going back to Aba where she brought me from.
“When I said I was going to Aba, the man was angry and said before he would allow me to go back, I must pay back the N100,000 he paid my sister for myself and my pregnancy and the expenses he incurred so far on me. After that, his wife took me to one shrine and asked me to swear to an oath not to go back to Aba or tell anybody what happened, that if I try to go back or tell anybody, she will make me mad; she would make me deaf and dumb. “But, I discussed my plan to escape with another victim who I met there, she is Oluchi and she said that if I try it I will become mad, but, I insisted and I escaped. I ran away to the next street. When I ran to the street, I met some people and I narrated my experience to them. They advised me to report to the Police, that was how police got to know everything, she stated.
Division of labour
Investigations revealed that the notorious couple who lives in Abeokuta where they operate their illegal and nefarious business, usually travels to many parts of the country in search of their ‘commodity’. It was further gathered that the husband, identified as Ismail Yusuf, is in charge of scouting for pregnant women as he reportedly went as far as Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi and other states in the Eastern part of the country. The wife, Muyiba, was saddled with the task of nurturing the pregnant women till they deliver of their babies for onward sale. Crime Guard learnt also that Muyiba who is cooling her feet at the Police station after she was arrested was reported to had come to Abeokuta from Kwara State disguised like a herbalist and rented an apartment at Adigbe where they use as their operational base.
According to the findings, the husband, having bought their preys (pregnant women), would charm them on the spot and take them to their operational base in Abeokuta where they would nurture the victims and their pregnancies until they give birth, which they allegedly usually sell to couples that need children or for ritual purposes. It was also gathered that when these victims were bought, the couple would force them to swear to an oath not to escape. They would charm them so that they would not escape from them and people living around and security agencies would not have any clues of what they were doing in their den.
Suspect opens up
Recalling her journey in the human trafficking business, 38-year-old Muyiba said, “ I came to Abeokuta in January this year from Offa, Kwara State. I used to sell baby clothes before my shop got burnt during the crisis between Offa and Erin-Ile. I know how to prepare herbs for diabetic patients. I am a trado-medical doctor, I registered in Kwara State but not in Ogun State. I have treated three patients in Abeokuta since I have been here.” When asked what she was doing with the pregnant women she camped in her house, Muyiba claimed that “ it was their husbands that brought them to my place, to keep them in my place. I knew them through one Joy. Arrest How were you arrested, she said “ It all happened when I saw police on Wednesday night banging that we should open the door.
They came to arrest all of us. I thought my husband has run away because I was asleep when the police came. My husband is Ismail Yusuf, our children are in Kwara State. The police also arrested Muyiba’s younger sister —Seun and when she was asked her role in the incident, she passed the ball to her elder sister. According to her , I was staying with her. I just graduated last year from School of Health in Ilorin, Kwara state. I came to Abeokuta last month. I don’t have anything to say, she (Muyinba) is the one that can say anything about it.
Raid at Akute
Two weeks ago, the operatives of Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command uncovered a baby-making factory in Akute and rescued eight pregnant women, including a 16-year-old girl, arresting the proprietor of the factory, Angela Chigoeze, and her brother-in-law, Obinna Ndunaga during the raid. It was gathered that at the baby -making factory operational base which is located at No 9, Sebanjo Crescent, Off Fabolude Bus-Stop in Akute, a baby was often sold at N300,000 each, while the young girls were usually offered pittance after delivery and their babies taken from them and sold to unknown people.
Some of the victims who were rescued included three teenage pregnant women; a-16-year-old Precious Steven, Miracle Eze and Blessing Saviour who are both 17 years old. Also rescued were Jeremiah Gift, 25, Joy Okoro, 20, Stella Samuel, 19; Agnes Igbo, 22 and Vivian Princewill, 20. The proprietress of the baby factory, Angela, 39, who hails from Abia state said that she started the business last year as a traditional healing home, claiming that her husband, now at large, rented the building from where the illicit business was transacted. Angela, however, denied that the young girls were usually impregnated inside the house, adding that the pregnant women were either brought by their husbands or traced her address themselves.
Government reacts
Speaking on the incident, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development , Elizabeth Sonubi, promised that government would continue to put in place the necessary security measures that would continue to nip girl child trafficking and other crimes targeted at children and women, in the bud.
The Commissioner disclosed that two of the victims had delivered two babies – male and female at the Rehabilitation Center where the State government takes care of them. She admonished the residents and people of the state to be vigilant and prevent such incident across the state, adding that people should report such incident promptly to the necessary quarters.

Imbibe The Lessons Of The Season, Ettah Urges Nigerians

Imbibe The Lessons Of The Season, Ettah Urges Nigerians

Larry Ettah
Larry Ettah
Group Managing Director/CEO of UAC of Nigeria Plc, Mr. Larry Ettah, has urged Nigerians to imbibe the lessons of the season, which are powerful, deep and fundamental.
Ettah gave the charge in his 2013 Christmas message to the employees of the company.
Ettah maintained that the essence of Christmas remain the birth, reign, teachings and mission of Jesus Christ, who not only personified but embodied humility, service, sacrifice, triumph and salvation for mankind. These virtues, according to him, are what should be allowed to guide people’s thoughts and actions.
“In a world where strife and chaos seem to tower over good sense and order, we cannot pretend that the world does not need the grains of the season’s lessons even now than ever. No one can fault Christ’s insistent call for simplicity, restraint and contentment in a world that has become an apparent vanity fair. As we celebrate Christmas and look forward to the New Year, we must remember that the lessons of the season are still as relevant and timely today as Christ intended them for humanity centuries ago. We must seek to live together in harmony and do unto others what we want them to do unto us” he said.
Ettah explained that at UACN, Christmas offers an opportunity to ponder, reflect and re-assess their activities within the year.
According to him, the company has had an eventful year as it strives to come to terms with the demands of its business and maintained that its performance has given them strong confidence that they would achieve their projections.
“Our drive to adopt strategic partnership as a model for growing our business has gained significant traction. Today, our strategic partners are Tiger Brands Limited in UAC Foods Limited, Imperial Logistics in MDS Logistics and Famous Brands in UAC Restaurants. We have been proactive in the face of present and emerging threats to our business by taking concrete steps to de-risk our operations,” Ettah said.

Empowerment Programme: Orlu youths bomb Uzodinma

Empowerment Programme: Orlu youths bomb Uzodinma

...You're a deceit
...Demand account of SURE-P
By JOHN Meziem
Some youths from Orlu senatorial zone of Imo state have described the recent empowerment programme organized by Senator Hope Uzodinma as a ruse and deceitful.
The youths under the aegis of Orlu Youths Empowerment Initiative (OYEI) in a release availed Weekend Nigerian Horn; alleged that the items and cash which Uzodinma shared to some selected youths in the zone were not provided by him but by Sure-P. According to the release which was signed by Comrade Jeff Nwaka (President); Moses Iwuna (Secretary) and Chukwudi Uzor (PRO); they challenged the Senator to give account of what happened to all that Sure-P has given to the zone since its inception.
“Our attention has been drawn to the empowerment programme that took place on Monday, December 16, 2013 which was organized by Senator Hope Uzodinma.
“At the programme, empowerment items like Buses, Jeeps grinding machines, motorcycles, tricycle, keke, cash and other items were distributed by Senator Hope Uzodinma representing the zone in the senate, to some selected youths from the zone.
“During title programme, Senator Uzodinma did it as part of his own empowerment programme for the youths of the zone, and never gave the hint that the materials and cash used for the programme were provided by Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P, and those items and cash should be the share of the youths of the zone from Sure-P.
“It was unfortunate that the Senator never disclosed that the items and cash involved were from Sure-P in line with their empowerment derive across the nation, especially when such information was never disclosed.
“We have also discovered that what the Senator distributed was not up to thirty per cent of what was given for the zone by Sure-P. For instance, in the record at Sure-P, 30 Hummer Buses, 25 Range Rover Jeeps, 700 Tricycle Keke NAPEP, 2000 motor cycles, 5000 bags of rice, 2000 grinding machines, and about N200 million, with other empowerment materials for skill acquisition. But not up to thirty per cent of these items and cash were given out to the youths during the empowerment programme.
“It is also important therefore to state categorically that, the items and cash which Senator Uzodinma shared to some selected youths in the zone were not provided by him but by Sure-P, and we want him to fault this claim, while we publish our findings from Sure-P headquarters.
“It is equally unfortunate that Chief Uzodinma who has been claiming to be Mr. President's point-man in Imo could not tell the people that it was Sure-P that made those items and money available knowing that the presidency introduced the programme to achieve an aim.
“We want to add that it is unfortunate that the Senator should use cash and materials made available by Sure-P for his own empowerment programme for the youths of the Senatorial zone, We challenge Senator Uzodinma to give account of what has happened to all that sure-P has given to the zone since its inception.
“We may be compelled to publish our findings at Sure-P if the need arises without delay. The deceit must stop”.

Man Sells Son to bury dad

Man Sells Son to bury dad

Kingsley Ubani, 26, from Eziama Nsulu in Isiala Ngwa North local government area of Abia, has admitted selling his three-year-old son to raise money to bury his father.
Ubani said this on Thursday in Umuahia when the Abia State Police Command paraded two child trafficking suspects and 19 pregnant teenagers/young persons.
He said that he sold his three years and eight months old son in November 2012 at the rate of N260, 000 to a woman who is now at large. “I told my wife that I don't have money to bury my father who was in the mortuary at that time and she approved of the transaction,” Ubani said.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in Abia, Mr Usman Tilli, told newsmen that the suspect was arrested following a tip-off.
He said that investigations led to the recovery of the child who had been handed over to the grandfather for care and protection.
Tilli said that the police had on Nov. 11, 2013, also arrested another suspect, Chimere Sunday of Osisioma local government area of the state for selling his two children.
He said that upon investigation, one of the children was recovered, adding that the buyers were on police wanted list.
Also, Tilli said that the 19 pregnant teenagers/ persons who were also paraded, were rescued from an illegal charity home at Umuobia Housing Estate, Olokoro in Umuahia North local government area of the state.
“A team of policemen from the command raided the home during which the pregnant girls between the ages of 15 and 23, including a nursing mother, were rescued,” he said.
Tilli said that the son and daughter-in-law of the operator of the illegal home were arrested while the prime suspect, Mrs Nma Achumba, was at large.
He said that Achumba hitherto operated her illegal charity home in Aba, but decided to relocate to the rural area due to police crackdown on traffickers in the commercial city.
“We have given child traffickers a lot of chase in Aba and they now relocated to the rural areas,” he said.
Reacting to the development, Mr Uchechukwu Ohuabunwa, son of the operator of the illegal charity home, said that he had severally advised his mother to stay away from such illegal business.
“I don't know where my mother is at the moment though she told me that she was going for our father's burial.
“I had earlier told her to let go of this business but she did not listen,” Ohuabunwa said.
Meanwhile, Tilli has assured residents of the state of a crime free Yuletide.
He said that his confidence stemmed from the fact that the Command had cracked down and arrested notorious armed robbers and car snatchers who terrorised the area
