Facts have emerged that late Ikemba Nnewi Dim Chuwkuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu had an agreement with the incumbent leadership of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) before his demise to ensure that an indigene of Nnewi replaced Mr. Peter Obi after his second tenure. This revelation came at a meeting between the Ifeanyi Uba campaign organization and Anambra indigenes in Lagos.
Making known the wishes of the late Ikemba, Hon Anthony Ogugiofor Agidigbo, a cabinet member in the traditional council of Agulu, one of the towns in Anambra said the Ikemba was initially opposed to Governor Peter Obi’s second tenure insisting that a candidate from Nnewi should replace Obi.
According to Ogugiofor, “We went and begged Ojukwu to allow our son to go for a second term and after a lot of persuasion, he agreed but extracted a promise from us that an Nnewi person will come after Peter Obi. So I am not working against the governor who comes from my hometown, I am only working to fulfill what we agreed with late Ikemba Nnewi.
“Peter Obi has done well as a Governor. He has done his best, but we must all learn to keep agreements. He cannot now go back on Ojuwku’s real last wish. Apart from coming from Nnewi, I believe that Ifeanyi Uba has what it takes to move Anambra to the next level.”
At the event, Uba explained how he intends to deploy technology to fight crime in the state, especially kidnapping. He said mobile phones can be used to fight crime, explaining that he has perfected plans to get the system which is already in use in some places in the United States of America to Anambra if he gets elected into office. He promised to increase the internally generated revenue of the state without taxing market women and traders as currently prevails. He said that he has been maligned greatly by political opponents who have told all sorts of lies against him, but insisting however that he has been vindicated.
Uba, the candidate of the Labour Party in the forthcoming governorship polls in Anambra state also used the opportunity to unveil his manifesto to the indigenes.
The occasion which was also a fund raising event was attended by several people including business moguls like Emma Bishop Okonkwo, of Ekulo group, Chidi Anyaegbu of Chisco transport, Dan Ulasi, former Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Anambra, Oscar Onwudiwe of Aka Ikenga, Gabriel Chukwuka, Tony Onyema of Teckno oil, Olorogun Micheal Ibru, Igwe A.A Kelly, Nkem Emordi and several others.
