Police Officers’ Wives In Court For Public Disturbance

Two police officers’ wives were on Monday arraigned before a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, Nasarawa State, for alleged disturbance of public peace.
The accused, Mrs Binoe Adamu, 21, and Mrs Lami Emmanuel, 30, reside at Mango st., Aso C, Mararaba.
The Police Prosecutor, Friday Adaji, told the court that on Jan.1 at about 4:30 p.m., Adamu lodged a complaint against Emmanuel at the Calvary Road Police Station, Aso
“Adamu alleged that on that same date, Emmanuel dragged her to the ground while carrying her baby at her back.
“She also said that Emmanuel assaulted her.
“But police investigation revealed that the women had engaged in a free-for-all and effort by the police to settle them at the police station proved abortive.”
Adaji said the offence contravened section 113 of the Penal Code, which provided up to 12 months imprisonment or an option to pay a fine or both.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Presiding officer, Mr Albert Maga, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 each and a surety each in like sum.
Maga said the the sureties must be of good conduct, possess a landed property and reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He ordered the sureties to write undertaking that the accused will not commit similar offence again pending the determination of the case.
Maga adjourned the case to Jan.16 for hearing. [NAN]
