Ebonyi LG election: It’s a kangaroo political game by PDP –CD

Ebonyi LG election: It’s a kangaroo political game by PDP –CD
From Goddy Osuji, Abakaliki
Ebonyi State Chairman of Campaign for Democracy (CD), Onu Ogbonnaya, has described the October 5, 2013 local government election conducted by the state Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) as a kangaroo political game by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The condemnation came barely 24 hours after the electoral commission released the results where PDP won the entire 13 chairmanship positions and councillorship positions in the state. The organization passed a vote of no confidence on the commission, accusing the it of conducting the election to create impression that other political parties were not on ground in the state.
He alleged that the figures announced by the commission were fabricated and a misplacement of what actually took place last Saturday. “The election results by EBSIEC was not just a fabricated figure but a misplacement of what took place last Saturday. Reports from our members who monitored the election in their wards and polling booths were quite different from what the observers informed the governor and the chairman of PDP. Where they got their own report, we are yet to know.
“Our report indicated that people did not turn out for the election and the same report was carried by Radio Nigeria Unity FM, Abakaliki. So, where did they manufacture the votes they announced to the people?
“We further observed with total dismay that over 75 per cent of Ebonyians did not go out to perform their civic responsibility in the rural areas as a result of the failure of EBSIEC to conduct public orientations on voting process in the localities as it failed woefully to revalidate the past voters’ register in the said localities.
“CD also maintains that Ebonyians should be allowed to vote in the leaders of their choice and not to be selected and imposed on them as this has been the bane to Ebonyi’s advancement politically, socially, economically and otherwise”.
”A vote of no confidence is hereby passed by CD on EBSIEC and its leader,” the organization said.
