Deji Was Appointed Commissioner On Merit, Not By Father’s Connection, Says Mimiko

Ondo State governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, yesterday, stressed that he appointed the late Deji Falae as commissioner not based on his father’s connection but purely on merit.

Late Deji Falae, who was one of the state government officials that perished in the ill-fated Associated Airline plane crash last week Thursday in Lagos, would have clocked 43, yesterday.
He was the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Ondo state and the son of former Secretary to the Federal Government and former Finance Minister, Chief Olu Falae.
Speaking during his second visit to the residence of Chief Olu Falae, yesterday, in Akure, the state capital since the incident, Gov. Mimiko extolled the virtues of his late commissioner, saying he beat the imagination of members of the cabinet by sheer dint of hard work and excellent performance.
Mimiko, who was accompanied on the visit by his wife, Olukemi and the National Chairman of Labour Party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu said:  “For us in government, he was a star in every considerable dimension that you look at it.

“Deji did not become commissioner because he was Olu Falae’s son; he earned the position based on merit.
“He was appointed commissioner based on his outstanding performance in the assignment that we gave him in that ministry.”
The Governor added: “Deji was an excellent commissioner who anybody could see was an epitome of humility regardless of his family background.”
