Prophet Babatunde Ayodele, Founder/Spiritual Head of Inri Evangelical Church, Lagos, has over the years warned the country of looming dangers, mostly unheeded. Warnings came before the airplane mishap that involved Sosoliso and Bellview Airlines in 2005, but were unheeded. The cleric has again spoken of things to come in the new year as 2013 winds down, emphasising the need for fervent prayers to avert evil, especially in the first family, as he says President Jonathan has to be prayerful so that he would not lose his wife.
“Concerning the year 2014, I will advise every Nigerian to take time and be prayerful for the country and for themselves from the 1st to 3rd of January, 2014. This is for God to prevent imminent dangers ahead of the nation and economy. Let us take it from here. I don’t see anything happening in the Nigerian economy. I see debts everywhere- our crude oil, foreign reserve, and all.
“States will be in debt, the Federal Government will be in debt and Nigeria will be planning to go borrow money. So, the government has to be very careful not to be grinded by these debts. Prices of food will increase drastically and flour will be scarce and very expensive. Corruption too will be more prevalent because this government lacks the power to fight it. Fighting oil theft will also pose a major challenge and Nigeria will beg America to support her in the fight. The price of petroleum will increase as well.

“There will be too much of troubles concerning kerosene. Sea pirates will dominate the waterways and the African Union, AU, will form a common security to monitor our seaways. Various organisations such as the Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, and The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, will be embarking on industrial action almost at the same time. Again, power supply will be unstable until 2015, 2016. I also see ocean surge in Lagos. Sponsors of Boko Haram will be exposed as well. Very importantly, let us be very watchful so we don’t have any border crisis.
“Like I’ve always said, President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term is dicey. He will start some political abracadabra in order to gain his second term which will be characterised by so much of negotiations. He will have to cajole and beg a lot of people; he will also beg Obasanjo. What Nigerians see now is only a tip of the iceberg of the clash that will come between Obasanjo and Jonathan.
“In the process of Jonathan’s negotiations, the offices of the Vice President, the Chief of Staff and the Secretary to the Federal Government will be affected. When he eventually succeeds through negotiation, some of these governors who moved to the All Progressive Congress, APC, will return back to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Tukur will be removed.

“At the same time, I want to tell you that when Jonathan eventually gets his second term, there will be crisis. Also, another person will be shopped by the PDP to take over from Jonathan, but like I said, through negotiation and begging, he will get the second term. Jonathan might be the last president of PDP to rule this country, anyway. He also has to be prayerful and watchful so he doesn’t lose his wife, the First Lady of the country. I also see shake-up in the cabinet and ministers being removed and replaced. The Ministers of Petroleum and Aviation will also be seriously probed. Some people might not like theses prophecies, but that is not my problem because I am speaking as God has directed me,” Ayodele said.
Speaking further, he stated; “An unknown man will rule Lagos State. Nationally, APC has accommodated traitors and betrayals. It is not yet time for the party to rule this country. However, if they really want to rule, they have to struggle and pray very well to get the right candidate. They must be watchful so that their party is not used for negotiation.
“Nigeria will try their best in the World Cup but I do not see them in the semi-final or final. Let us be very watchful in the aviation sector so that pilots will not go on strike. Also, there will be air turbulence in some of our airports such as in Lagos and Abuja. We also must be watchful so that there won’t be any air crash. I however see reforms in the aviation sector.Let us pray very well so that this growing climatic condition will also not cause mourning for this country,” Ayodele said.

Dinosaurs Could be Brought Back to Life Using Bird DNA, Experts

Dinosaurs could be brought back to life…using the DNA of birds.
In an echo of Jurassic Park, experts believe identifying and altering certain genes found in the DNA of modern birds would mean genomes of the prehistoric creatures could be engineered 20 million years after they died out.
Oxford biochemist Dr Alison Woollard says it would be theoretically possible to recreate species through the DNA.
A mosquito was recently discovered which had the blood of another animal in its stomach dating back 46 million years.
Dr Woollard said: “We know that birds are the direct descendants of dinosaurs, as proven by an unbroken line of fossils which tracks the evolution of the lineage from creatures such as the velociraptor or T-Rex through to the birds flying around today.
“The most famous of these is the Archaeopteryx, a fossil which clearly shows the transition between feathered dinosaurs and modern birds.
“This evolution implies that buried deep within the DNA of today’s birds are switched-off genes that control dinosaur-like traits.
“Could we ‘rewind’ evolution by switching these genes back on and using them to guide the development of that bird’s offspring, and its offspring’s offspring, backwards?”
All animals and plants are related, sharing a common ancestor that lived about 1.6 billion years ago.
To make a full genome, scientists would have to combine millions of short fragments of nucleic acids in exactly the right order, just like putting together an enormous jigsaw puzzle.

Christmas Celebration Marred By Power Outage In Most Parts Of Lagos, Residents Say

Many residents of the Lagos metropolis celebrated this year’s Christmas in darkness, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Visits to Mile 12, Ketu, Ojota, Maryland, Palmgrove, Onikpanu, Bariga, Lagos Island, Oshodi/Isolo, Apapa, Munshi, Iyana Oworo neighbourhoods of Lagos revealed the areas had been experiencing a blackout since December 25.
Some of the residents expressed displeasure at the failure of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to supply stable electricity under the existing arrangements.
Ayo Adeyinka, a resident of Mushin, said that the privatisation of the power sector had not been beneficial to the citizens in spite of the government’s efforts to make things work.
“We have never seen it like this before. There was light on December24, although it was on and off till 7 a.m. on the Christmas day.
“Since that time, up till this morning, we have not seen light in any part of this area,’’ he said.
A resident of Ketu, Sunday Olarewaju, noted that the PHCN management had not given any explanation for the prevailing blackout.
“We do not know if PHCN workers are on strike or not.
“In our usual way, we have checked the transformers and moved round but there is no sign that a major fault was responsible for the blackout,” he said.
Mr. Olarewaju said that the residents’ representatives were planning to go to the nearest PHCN office to demand an explanation for the blackout.
Adeloju Shokoya, a resident of Lagos Island, expressed regret that he and his family had a “harrowing experience celebrating Christmas without electricity.
“If there is light, you will not meet most of us outside; we would have been somewhere else watching films or football matches.
“I have been on generator since Christmas Day with the hope that PHCN would soon restore electricity supply. Up till this morning, we have not seen even the normal flashing they give us at times,” he said.
Another Lagos Island resident, Adetola Williams, however, said that the people would continue to enjoy themselves, whether there was light or not.
“PHCN or no PHCN; man must enjoy himself. Yesterday, we were outside drinking and we used generators to power our musical sets in order to enjoy ourselves.
“From the look of things, we may do the same again today; because l don’t understand this PHCN palaver anymore.
“You know they do what they like but they cannot spoil our enjoyment and merriment in this Christmas period,” he said.
When a correspondent visited some PHCN district offices in Ketu, Lagos Island and Fadeyi; only security men were on duty.
However, it was gathered from the security men that the workers were not on strike but they were not certain if a major fault had been responsible for the blackout.

Malaria ravages Adamawa communities

… As residents turn mosquito nets to fishing nets, wedding gowns

Fishermen from Shelleng, a Local Government Area in Adamawa State, with the large expanse of the famous Kiri Dam generously spreading and cutting through several of its communities, are like fishermen elsewhere.
They are seen plying their trade with dexterity in the several Adamawa rural fishing communities that have sprung up along the banks of the major rivers in the area – Benue, Gongola and Yedsarem-with the majority living below the poverty line.
Sadly, most of these Adamawa fishing communities are malaria endemic, as the fishermen and their families often fall sick and many die from the effects of the disease.
The fishermen belong to the Kana-Kura ethnic extraction. They live peacefully with other ethnic groups in this scattered Adamawa south community, including Hausa Fulani and other minority ethnic groups. But that was before the Boko Haram crisis started upsetting the peace.
On 14 May 2013, President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in Adamawa State due to the activities of the Islamist network Boko Haram. But the peace in most of these communities, including Shelleng is obvious. The biggest threat to the lives of the fishermen and their families in the communities is, not Boko Haram; it is the scourge of malaria which has claimed many lives.
Mosquito nets and malaria
Known for their hard work and hospitality, the fishermen are usually seen casting their nets to cash fish with breathtaking dexterity along the riverbank. But if you look closely, you will discover that among the nets being used by the average fisherman in Adamawa are treated mosquito nets.
“It is absurd to use mosquito nets to catch fish instead of sleeping in them to prevent malaria,” Usman Bagudu, a community health worker based in Shelleng, the headquarters of Shelleng Local Government lamented. “Most of our communities are located in the riverine areas and malaria is killing our people,” Usman observed.
Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease transmitted via a bite from an infected female Anopheles mosquito.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), malaria kills a child every 45 seconds and the disease accounts for seven per cent of all under-five childhood deaths.
Figures from the Federal Ministry of Health showed that Nigeria is one of the countries with the highest mortality rates in the world with malaria contributing 11 per cent to its deaths.
The National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) has discovered that malaria kills more than any other disease, hence the need to focus on it.
One of the strategies of the roll-back malaria is to distribute 63 million insecticide treated nets, with over 51 million nets distributed in 33 states so far, sources from the NMCP revealed.
His Royal Highness, Amna Shelleng, Dr. Abdulahi Kindiga Managina, said all efforts to prevent and reduce the impact of the scourge of malaria cases in Shelleng are being hampered due to the use of treated nets by fishermen in the area to catch fish.
The problem runs in other riverine communities in the state, including Maiha and Demsa Local Government areas, where mosquito nets are popularly used for fishing.
“Our people need to be cautioned to stop using mosquito nets to catch fish. It is sad that some fishermen in Demsa have converted treated nets to fishing nets out of ignorance,” said Doctor Newton Nabiyaubeh, Chairman of Demsa Local Government area.
Nabiyaubeh said the development was causing a setback in the fight against malaria in the area.
“Demsa is a riverine area and we are highly infected by malaria. Our children and pregnant mothers are being killed by malaria,” he lamented.
Stopping the killer disease
As part of health interventions geared towards reducing deaths of under-five children and women for the attainment of health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a team supported by UNICEF carried out social mobilisation campaigns on malaria control using long lasting insecticide treated nets (LLNS utilisation) in parts of the state.
The team crisscrossed the rugged terrain of Shelleng, travelled to Geria, a semi-urban community near Yola , the state capital and wrapped up the campaign in the fishing community of Maiha in the south, central and north senatorial zones of Adamawa State respectively.
Other strategies adopted by the team in the campaign on malaria control included advocacy visits to Demsa, Fulfure and Mubi North Local Government areas of the state.
“All these areas are highly infected by malaria,” Samuel Leneke, Adamawa State Director of Information who was part of the team, noted.
Inuwa Bello, the team’s lead facilitator, observed that malaria has seriously affected development in Adamawa, hence the need to create more awareness on prevention through use of treated nets.
“Mosquito nets, if properly used and maintained, can provide a physical barrier to hungry mosquitos,” said Bello.
Mr. Timothy Kadala, the Adamawa Manager of the Roll Back Malaria, disclosed that the state government, in partnership with UNICEF and other donor agencies, in 2010 distributed over 1.5 million insecticide treated bed nets to households in the state.
Sadly, most of these nets have since been converted to fishing nets rather than mosquito nets to prevent malaria
Bello said sleeping in treated nets could reduce deaths in young children by an average of 20 per cent.
He warned that those who are not in the habit of sleeping under mosquito nets needed to be convinced of their usefulness and should start using such nets on a regular basis.
Drama as weapon of behavioural change
Bello said the team hoped to change the attitude of the fishermen through an unconventional method. He said his team would convince the fishermen to stop using the mosquito nets as fishing nets through the local theatre.
He said: “Now, how do you change the attitude of people when you are not living with them?  We thought the usage of community theatre groups would be effective.”
Bello said such local theatre groups established with the support of UNICEF have proven to be highly successful.
“We trained a minimum of three theatre groups in each of the states in the D Field office. For instance in Adamawa State, we trained three groups in Gerei, Mubi South and Ganye to use the medium of theatre to advocate for the proper use of treated nets and any other health and community related challenges in terms of communication.”
Halima Danladi, 29, from Shelleng Local Government area of the state watched a local drama on the use of mosquito nets to prevent malaria during the mass mobilisation in the community.
The mother of four, who was holding her youngest child, Mohammed, who was just 15 months old, said she laughed her heart off but the message was not lost on her.
“This drama has opened my eyes to see the implications of not sleeping under the nets,” she enthused.
Halima said besides fishermen, many people in the community also use treated nets as wedding gowns, washing sponge, curtains in their homes and even as turban for traditional rulers.
Reeling from the impact of the drama, she said: “We will tell our husbands not to use the nets to catch fish again because sleeping under mosquito nets makes the difference in the family. We used to experience malaria in my family but I am happy that none of my children has died because of this dreaded disease. The drama has also taught me that my family can save money if we sleep inside nets and we won’t fall sick and be spending money on treatment of malaria.
“Now I know that we can use the money spent on local herbs to feed our family, train our children in school and solve other family problems.”
The drama on use mosquito nets to control malaria was replicated in Gerei and Maiha with similar impact. The district head of Gerei appealed to the women in the community to turn up for the coming Maternal and New-born Child Health week, where nets would be distributed so as to get the mosquito nets free. He urged his subjects to make good use of them.
He also advised his people to maintain a clean and hygienic lifestyle in order to reduce cases of malaria.

Exposé impunity: Nyako charges Nigerian media

The Nigerian media have been charged to ensure that they do not promote the reign of impunity and lawlessness among the political class in the governance of the country, even as they should be bold to expose their evil deeds.
Adamawa State Governor, Vice Admiral Murtala Nyako, who played host to Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State chapter, led by its Chairman, Salisu Abubakar, who were on Christmas homage yesterday, said Nigerian media needed to effectively and efficiently played its constituted role as spelt out in the constitution for the stability of the country.
The governor charged the media to be fearless to expose the atrocities being perpetrated by the political class, saying that would help to checkmate excesses in the polity.
According to him, for Nigeria to sustain a stable polity, the media must be alert to its responsibilities to the society, without which no meaningful progress could be achieved if impunity and lawlessness were allowed to reign in the society.
Nyako reiterated that the fight by some governors in the country was against the reign of impunity as perpetrated by a few that were not passionate about the ideals that Nigeria stood for as a nation in the comity of Nations that were aligned with the ideals of democracy or for the institution of democracy.
The Chairman of NUJ, Abubakar expressed appreciation to Nyako’s administration for provisions of state-of-the-art equipment in the media houses owned by the state government which in turn had helped to facilitate favourable working environment for journalists in the state.
Abubakar used the forum to admonish prominent citizens of the state to join hands with Nyako-led government to deliver democracy dividends to the people, as doing so would provide a synergy for socioeconomic development of the state.
Abubakar also appealed to the governor to intervene in the infrastructural development of Adamawa State press centre being managed by the NUJ to get a befitting centre for journalists in the state.

Shell To Sell $2bn Assets In Niger Delta Over Oil Theft, Fall In Profits

Royal Dutch Shell is to start the sale of $2 billion oil and gas assets in the Niger Delta in 2014 after weak refining margins and crude oil theft in Nigeria forced the profits of Europe’s largest oil company to tumble.

The UK-based Telegraph quoted oil and gas analysts from JP Morgan Cazenove as saying that the oil giant would sell up to $30 billion (£18bn) of assets next year.
They include oil assets in the Niger Delta worth $2 billion; a $7 billion stake in Woodside Petroleum, Australia’s second largest oil and gas producer; and other assets totalling $20 billion.
The $30 billion disposal plan could be unveiled as early as January 2014, and would be the largest in the Anglo-Dutch oil group’s history.
According to Fred Lucas of JP Morgan Cazenove, Shell’s guidance for capital spending implies at least $15 billion in asset sales during the next two years.
“Yet without too much thought to portfolio stress, we can isolate almost double that figure of potentially non-core assets in Shell’s global portfolio,” he added.
Retiring Shell’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Peter Voser, said: “We are entering into a divestment phase like we had a few years ago.”
Voser, who steps down at the end of the year to be replaced by Ben van Beurden, said asset sales would allow Shell’s net capital investment, spending on projects adjusted for acquisitions and disposals, to fall from this year’s record $45 billion.
“We are entering into a divestment phase like we had a few years ago. The net capital spending is considerably going to come down in 2014. We know exactly what we are going to do. Ben will introduce to the market new targets,” Voser had said at his company’s headquarters in The Hague.
Shell’s Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Simon Henry, said Shell would be investing in projects from Brazil to China and plans to sell production assets in Nigeria, the United States, and possibly some other regions, along with interests in refineries and retail.
Voser, 55, a Swiss national and an economist by training, is retiring 31 years after first joining Shell. Since his appointment in 2009, he has overseen the completion of some of Shell’s largest projects.

Mother of two Mariah Carey says she's done having kids and if her husband Nick Cannon wants more children, he will have to get pregnant and have the babies himself.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the 44 year old singer was asked by a fan caller whether or not she and Nick were planning to have more children...

"If Nick could have the babies himself, then yeah, bring 'em on. We love kids," Mariah answered. "Here's the thing: This is real. I'm responsible for the kids for like forever. I look at it like, they didn't ask for this lifestyle but here they are."

"To anyone who has ever carried twins, it is a totally different experience...You don't even know who you are. I had a very difficult pregnancy, but I was alone most of the time. We love Nick, but he's working. He's the hardest-working man in show business."

What Does The Bible Say About Tattoos?

When we start searching for answers to the question in the headline, a number of related questions would arise:

1. Are tattoos bad?
2. Will I go to hell for having a tattoo?
3. Can I have tattoos and still be a Christian?
4. Are there such thing as “Christian Tattoos?”
Tattoos are a widely debated topic among Christian culture. Look at the questions below:
1. Why would I get a tattoo? or Why did I get a tattoo?
2. Who will my tattoo glorify? or Who do my tattoos glorify?
3. What would my tattoo say about me? or What do my tattoos say about me?
Although these questions may seem silly, they are going to play an important role in your view on tattoos in reference to God’s word. Why? Because the answers to those questions may just be the answers you’ve been looking for.
In Leviticus 19:28, you can see what most people say is a pretty clear-cut answer as to what God thinks about tattoos.
“Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the LORD.” -Leviticus 19:28.
But as clear as this text may seem, without the context and background, this text can be taken out of context in many ways. And it usually is.
This text is directed towards pagan nations who would violently cut and mark their bodies as a sign of worship to their gods. The tattoos or “markings” one would find on their body would resemble which god or gods their were worshiping.
Pretty different from the tattoos we see today, right? Yup.
Markings or tattoos that resemble worship to anyone other than God are sinful, however that 99% of the tattoos we see in today’s culture are not due to idol worship, but more creative expression and artistic value. It’s not the actual tattoo or marking that is sinful, but the motives in which each tattoo or marking is obtained.
Tattoos are not for everyone. A person has to realize the motives of its heart mean more to God than the ink on the skin. But also realize that this doesn’t mean your body is a free for all canvas to be filled with mindless and ill-thought clip art.
Your body is still a temple, and to treat your body with disrespect is to treat God the same way. Whether you are debating getting your first tattoo or your fiftieth, I pray you will seek God for wisdom, guidance, and evaluate the motives of your heart.
Remember those three questions? Well, it’s time to ask them again.
1. Why would I get a tattoo? Why did I get a tattoo?
2. Who will my tattoo glorify? Who do my tattoos glorify?
3. What would my tattoo say about me? What do my tattoos say about me?
We may not all reach the same conclusion, but that doesn’t mean we are not all loved by the same God.

1. Instant recognition. Ami met her soul mate best friend 16 years ago on the first week of college when she made a snarky joke and her friend was the only person who laughed. One thing that’s true of all soul mates, whether they’re romantic or platonic, is that they will understand you better than anyone else. This feeling of mutual understanding often occurs almost instantly, and it only gets deeper and truer as you get to know each other better. What starts as a shared laugh at a snarky joke could lead to a lifetime of mutual laughter. 6. Premonition. Often times, you’ll have a premonition of meeting your soul mate before you do in the form of a dream or a déjà vu type of sensation. A friend of Winona’s actually wrote a journal entry describing her ideal guy–physical and personality traits–and ended up meeting him two days later. And Ami knows someone who had a dream about her future boyfriend years before they met — describing him by name, appearance and the circumstances of their meeting. If you’re not into psychic mumbo jumbo, that’s fine, but you may find yourself having some kind feeling like you’ve known this person forever.

Deposed Wife-Beating Akure Monarch Address to Gov. Mimiko in 18-Page Apology Letter

The deposed former Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina, has written an emotional letter of consideration to the Ondo state government to reinstate him as the paramount ruler.

Mr. Adepoju was deposed after this website revealed his battery of his wife, Olori Bolanle, in May 2010. His battered wife (pictured) took ill and subsequently died in July 2011.

Mr. Adepoju then relocated to the United Kingdom.
In the letter, obtained exclusively by SaharaReporters through Adepoju Adesina’s lawyer, Barr. Olusola Oke, the deposed Deji appealed to Governor Olusegun Mimiko, for whom he claimed to have worked tirelessly during his election campaign, to consider his plea.
“I must passionately plead with your Excellence to remember how well I stood behind you and fought with you towards ensuring that you won the election and to ensure that you also recovered your stolen mandate,” he said.
Recounting how he was deposed from the town because he allegedly poured a concoction on his estranged late wife, Olori Bola Adepoju Adesina, he said the avoidable communication gap was the reason behind the widely-reported incident.
He claimed that the escalated fracas between him and the late Olori was misconstrued by the press which, he also alleged, refused to report his own version of the story.
Dr. Ige Ogunleye, the Chairman of the Osupa Ruling house which Adesina hails from, confirmed receipt of the letter, but he declined further comment.
Many sources in the ruling house disclosed that the letter comes at an important time, as the Deji throne is vacant. It has been previously learnt from a kingmaker in the palace that the Osupa Ruling House is the next family to present candidates for the throne.
Chiefs in Akure will this week complete traditional rites for the late Oba Adebiyi Adegboye Adesida. A source revealed that the daughter of the deceased, Princess Adetutu, is expected to be installed as Regent of Akure pending the emergence of a new king.
The palace source a newsman that the belated installation was on account of family exigencies.
“The issue is that Princess Adetutu was nursing her baby when the sudden death of her father was pronounced. But immediately after the whole rites she might will be installed as the regent of the kingdom this week or early in the New Year,” the source said.
But an aide to the Lisa of Akure, High Chief James Olusoga, said in a phone interview that the traditional rites would be completed with the installation of a regent, most likely between Christmas and the New Year festival period.
With just 23 days since the death of Adebiyi Adesida, the jostling for the throne has begun at a frantic pace, with members of the Osupa Ruling House lobbying kingmakers for the vacant sit.
While some seem to favour the return of the deposed Adesina to the throne, others object, fearing victimisation should he re-emerge the king.
In the letter, however, the former and perhaps future Deji seems to have leant his lessons of his experience and reconciled with those who worked against him.
Dated December 19, it was addressed to Governor Olusegun Mimiko through his Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN).
It was copied to the Deputy Governor, Ali Olanusi; the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Samuel Adesina; the State Chief Judge, Sehinde Kumuyi; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Bamiduro Dada; and the Akure Council of Chiefs through Lisa of Akure, High Chief James Olusoga.
