Jonathan commissions 434MW Geregu11 power plant today

President Gooluck Jonathan will today commission the Geregu phase 11 power station as part of Federal Government’s drive to improve power generation in the country.
Monday’s presentation of certificates and licences to 15 core investors of the power sector generation and distribution companies with Geregu as one of the generation companies.
The 434 Geregu megawatt power plant projects located at Geregu near Ajaokuta in Kogi State was initiated in 2006 as the second phase development to the existing 414 Geregu phase 1 to add three more Siemens V94.2 gas turbines to complete the power’s facility’s original plan.
Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holdings Company (NDPHC), James Olotu, disclosed that construction work on the project commenced in August 10, 2010 with the first gas turbine unit and the common systems went into full commercial operation at the competition test on 3rd April, 2013 while the other two units were completed and put to commercial use on May 14, this same year.
According to him, “gas feed for the power plant will come from the Oben-Ajaokuta gas pipeline with the existing Nigeria Gas Company (NGC)’s Geregu pressure reduction and metering station (GPRMS) built for phase 1 power plant capable of supplying the additional gas requirements of phase 2 plants will serve.”
