SHOCKING SHOPPING: Man Jumps To His Death After Girlfriend Insists On Bying More Shoes (PHOTO)

China – A man jumped to his death after a furious row with his girlfriend who insisted they go into another clothes shop.
CCTV shows Tao Hsiao, 38, escorting his girlfriend around a shopping mall in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province, east China. After five hours Tao finally had enough and demanded to go home. Eyewitnesses say he could be heard saying they already had more bags than they could carry, but she insisted on going into one more shop where the was a special offer on shoes.
An eyewitness said: “He told her she already had enough shoes, more shoes that she could wear in a lifetime, and it was pointless buying any more. She started shouting at him, accusing him of being a skinflint, and of spoiling Christmas. It was a really heated argument.”
The shouting match ended when the man chucked the bags on the floor and jumped over the balcony. He smashed into Christmas decorations on his way down before hitting the floor seven stories below.
Emergency services arrived at the scene, but Tao was killed immediately from the impact of the fall.
A shopping spokesman said: “His body was removed fairly quickly. He actually landed on one of the stalls below and then fell to the floor so although the store was damaged it meant he didn’t hit anybody.
“This is a tragic incident, but this time of year can be very stressful for many people.”

We’ve all watched movie scenes that show mom’s water breaking in the grocery store before dad frantically rushes her to the hospital — is this what really happens when water breaks?
Get to know the real facts about what to do if your water breaks before labor begins.

The truth about water breaking
Most moms don’t have their membranes rupture in the middle of the grocery store or a work meeting. Approximately one in 12 pregnant moms will have their water break before labor begins — it’s more common for the amniotic membrane to rupture once labor really gets going and contractions come regularly. Sometimes water doesn’t break until mom is pushing the baby out. In other cases, water doesn’t break on its own, and a doctor or midwife needs to break it artificially using an amnio hook. For sake of learning, let’s assume your water breaks spontaneously at home.
What will it feel like?
You may feel a strong gush of fluid, or feel only a trickle — you won’t be the first mom to wonder if your water broke or if you peed a little! Don’t be embarrassed if you’re unsure at first — eventually, there will be no question that you’re leaking amniotic fluid.
Be ready to answer these questions if your water breaks at home
If your water breaks before you’re at the hospital, don’t panic. Call your doctor or midwife to let them know, and be prepared to answer three important questions:
1. What time did your water break?
They will use this information to determine if and when you may need to come to the hospital. Once your water breaks the risk of infection increases, so after a certain number of hours — your provider can tell you their usual protocol — if you’re not having regular contractions, she will discuss inducing or augmenting labor.
2. What does it look like?
Normal amniotic fluid looks like water. It should be clear and colorless. If your water is green or brown, it could indicate your baby passed meconium — the first poop — in utero and may be a sign of distress. Your doctor or midwife will likely want you to come to the hospital soon, so they can assess the color of the fluid and baby’s well-being.
3. What does it smell like?
Amniotic fluid should be odorless. If it smells bad, you may have an infection. Just like above, chances are good you’ll be asked to come and get checked out much sooner rather than later.
If you test positive for Group B strep and your water breaks, antibiotics will need to be administered, since the risk of infection increases for your baby.

Three Siblings Burnt To Death In Lagos

A one and a half year old child with two of his siblings were, weekend burnt to death in an inferno that engulfed a building and a church in Iba Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Lagos State, leaving property worth millions of Naira destroyed.
The deceased siblings identified as Imoleayo Ismaila who is eight years old and Busayo Ganiyu, were said to have been sleeping when the fire started.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, but sources said it started at about 9:30p.m., Friday, from the victims’ one-room apartment before spreading to other rooms.
According to reports, efforts by the sympathisers to put out the fire proved abortive, as it later spread to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church of Zion at 41, Ogunyemi Street, Sabo Ilaje, Ajangbadi, Iba LCDA.
Sources said that the mother of the three siblings, a petty trader, was still in shock over the death of her children.
Speaking to Vanguard, Adeyemi Ayinla, a friend to the late Ismaila, said that his friend would have been alive if the neighbours who raised the alarm saw the fire early enough.
According to him:  “We couldn’t get water early. And when we called the emergency numbers: 767 and 112, there wasn’t any response. This I guess, was due to the network. Before we could get water to extinguish the fire, they had already died.”
A teacher in Sabo Oniba Primary School, Ajangbadi,  Iba LCDA, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said that Ismaila was a primary three pupil.
He said: “I can’t believe that he (Ismaila) is dead. He was in school on Thursday, his mother also attended the Parents /Teachers Association, PTA, meeting in the school that day.” [Vanguard]

Jonathan To Attend Mandela’s Memorial Service In South Africa

President Goodluck Jonathan, who just returned from a visit to Germany and France will Monday evening leave Abuja to join other world leaders in South Africa at events leading up to the burial of former President Nelson Mandela on 15 December, where 59 world leaders are expected.
According to a statement by the special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, Sunday, President Jonathan will attend the Memorial Service for Dr. Mandela on Tuesday at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg in the company of the Supervising Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri.
The President will, in the company of other Heads of State and Government, also pay his last respects to Mandela at the anti-apartheid hero’s lying-in-state on Wednesday at the Union Building in Pretoria where he served as South Africa’s first democratically-elected President.
After the event in Pretoria on Wednesday, President Jonathan will leave for Nairobi to honour a long-standing invitation to be a guest of honour at Kenya’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
President Jonathan is expected back in Abuja on Thursday, December 12.

Gunmen Kidnap Marshal Harry’s Daughter

UNKNOWN gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Miss Julie Harry, the daughter of the former Vice-Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, late Marshal Harry.

The eldest son of the late politician, Mr. Sonny Harry, who disclosed this to SUNDAY PUNCH on Friday, said his sister was seized by hoodlums on December 1, 2013, about 100 metres away from her residence in Eleparanwo, Rivers State.
He said his sister’s Honda CRV jeep, taken away by the kidnappers, was recovered the following day at Rumumasi in Port Harcourt.
Harry, who was visibly worried about the whereabouts of 30-year-old Miss Julie, stated that he had yet to establish contact with the kidnappers of his sister, five days after her abduction.
“I reported the matter to the police, the State Security Service, other relevant security agents and they all said they had begun investigations. We do not see the kidnap of our sister as politically motivated.
“Her kidnap is one of the indications of the increasing level of insecurity in the state. When she was kidnapped, we decided to wait with the hope that she would soon be released.
“But as I speak with you, she has not regained her freedom and we have yet to establish contact with those who kidnapped her.
“Since her abduction, no contact has been made with her family and no ransom has been demanded. The family has also reported this incident to the security agencies,” the senior Harry added.
He, appealed to Julie’s captors to release her and save the family more psychological trauma after the gruesome murder of their father.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, said security agents had since swung into action to ensure the rescue of the kidnap victim.
He stated out that the police would leave no stone unturned in its bid to rescue the victim.

INSPIRING: Meet Lagos Danfo Driver Who Lost Both of His Legs in a Road Accident, But Continues His Job (PHOTO)

The story of a 32-year-old Pius Abayomi Abiodun is one which causes remorse, pity and at the same time could go for one of the ‘Wonders of Lagos’. The handsome well built light complexioned gentle man is one of the thousands of Commercial Bus Drivers, popularly called Danfo Drivers, in Lagos.

For a passenger boarding his bus for the first time, nothing suggests Pius has no legs. When a reporter boarded his bus 2 weeks ago at Town Planning junction towards Western Avenue in Lagos, he didn’t notice Pius had no legs to drive the Danfo. After about 10 minutes journey, a driver who rode a mini truck pulled up on the lane Pius drove and before the passengers could blink their eyes Pius increased his speed and got at par with the truck, looked towards the driver and said, “Iwo, ma deal pelu e (You, I will deal with you). You dey try me?” Despite words of caution from his conductor, who said “Leave am” severally Pius did the unimaginable as if he was instructed by the Road Safety men, he applied his breaks and forced the mini truck to a slower speed, one of the Road Safety men gesticulated to the truck driver to pull over for retinue check. Pius didn’t say a word but this reporter could read something like, “You drivers with legs, I will make you all to respect me by force!”.
A more careful look at Pius behind the wheels, the reporter was in for a shocker. Pius controlled the accelerator and brake pedals with his hands. He exhibited the mastery of his specially built Danfo which he operated without any qualms. The reporter and Pius exchanged phone numbers with a promise he would get in touch for an interview soon.
As nature would have it, Pius and the reporter met at the Town Planning Road Junction Bus Stop, where they first met. The reporter quickly hopped into the front passenger seat Pius had instructed his conductor to reserve for the reporter. It was a trip through Western Avenue to Nigeria Breweries Area to Orile Iganmu linking Coker (Ijeshatedo Area) and through Apapa-Oshodi Express Way to Oshodi Terminus and Down to Town Planning Road Junction. The trip lasted for 1 hour 20 minutes and a trip that also got Pius very sober because of a few of the questions took him back memory lane when he had both legs and functioned like every other Lagos Driver with two legs. On the day they agreed to meet as nature would have it they met at the same spot the reporter boarded his bus.
Pius who hails from Mowo, Badagry in Lagos was not born without legs. According to him, he was involved in a fatal accident.

“I was driving a Danfo bus on April 3, 2011, along Lagos Abeokuta Expressway by May Flower Hotel close Olorunsogo Bus Stop. Suddenly the bus developed a fault I felt I could fix. I went down from the bus to the rear where the engine compartment is. While trying to fix my Danfo, another driver was driving on a top speed hit me against the rear of my bus and that was all I knew. I was rushed to the National Orthopedic Hospital, Gbobi, Lagos. Two days after the accident, my two legs were amputated. I was at Igbobi for 4 months. The operation, medication and physiotherapy cost me all my savings. And I had to go to people seeking for financial assistant. In all it cost about 4 Million Naira to get me out of the hospital.”

Thereafter he was discharged and what could be least described as frustration set in for Pius who had never taken to begging to live.

He was in a dilemma as to how to care for his wife who was pregnant then and his daughter and other bills.

“I got so frustrated that I always thought of suicide as an option. Most times I am moody because I couldn’t imagine I no longer had legs to move around.”

Not giving up on his condition, Pius decided to go into Weight Lifting. This was after it had been confirmed to him he would need artificial limbs for both legs. The cost of two limbs, according to him, was 5 Million Naira.

“I didn’t give a second thought to begging as an option for survival”, Pius said in a louder tone.

He joined other physically challenged sportsmen at the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos. Even at that he wasn’t in his best state of mind. He kept telling his new found friends (since the old friends were nowhere to be found) that he used to be a commercial bus driver. One day at the National Stadium someone who felt moved by Pius’ attitude suggested he goes to The Mobility Aid and Appliances Research and Development Centre, Amuwo Odofin area, Lagos owned by millionaire, Cosmas Okoli who is also physically challenged.

“When I met Cosmas, he encouraged me and asked me what I could do. I told him I used to be a Danfo driver. He assured me, he would help me construct a bus I can drive with my hands.”

Pius had to also look for a car dealer that could give him a bus and he could pay on instalments. He succeeded in getting a dealer. Took the automatic Volkwagen Bus (Danfo) to Cosmas who fabricated some metals to the pedals, he simply called ‘LEGS’. A closer look at the device built by Cosmas which cost 50 Thousand Naira only shows the break and accelerator pedals are both controlled by a long rod underneath the steering.
The metal rod controls the break and accelerator pedals. To speed he pulls up the rod to his chest and to apply the break, he pushes the rod down. Pius has so mastered the use of his special device that most commuters who board his bus hardly notice the man behind the wheels has no legs.
Asked if he has ever had experience of passengers being scared on sighting him after they have boarded his bus, Pius chuckled said:

“A lot of passengers express their disbelieve. Though I had never had a situation of passengers getting scared of me. A lot of them watch me as I drive. Some pray for me while others are too stunned to talk until they get to their destinations.”

Pius revealed he does not go out for any social activities. He likes to be indoors whenever he is not on Lagos road trying to make ends meet. He likes to help his 2 kids Rachael aged 5 and Samson aged 2 with their home work from school.
Does Pius feel pains on any part of his body since he does everything with his hands?

“Yes, I feel pains like once a month on spot of both legs that I was amputated.” Obviously, as one may see in the photo above, he was amputated beyond the knell joints.

When does his day start?

“I leave my house at Mushin area around 9 a.m. every morning. I don’t stop work until 8 p.m. at night.”

So how does Pius who has no crutches around him inside the bus get into the bus daily?
Pointing at the rear of his car, he said “I use my wheel chair. I park my bus around 3 streets away from my house so once I park, the conductor helps me get the wheelchair down and I get on it.”
There are stories of bus conductors absconding with money made from daily trips. How does Pius who lost his mother 5 years ago guide against this?
He further revealed that he does not employ unknown conductors. “I employ those who live in my neighbourhood.” He replied without much attention as he tried to confirm if he has all the seats occupied in his bus at the popular Cele Bus Stop on Apapa Oshodi Express Road.
Pius doesn’t work on Sundays. He goes to church with his immediate family members. They all ride with him on Sundays from their Itire Road, Mushin abode to The Redeemed Evangelical Ministry (TREM), Kirikiri Road, Apapa, Lagos.
Pius gets his own share of harassment from Police man and officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). Sometimes he is left to go free when they realize he is physically challenged and sometimes he has to bribe to escape the wrath of the law. Like every Danfo driver, has a nick name. He is called Oni Mama which means the one has a mother. Before the accident that claimed his 2 legs, Pius had the bumper sticker with inscription “Oni Mama” on it. Since then he has been referred to as such among those who know him way back.
The reporter was curious enough to ask Pius if he still makes love to his wife. With a brighter smile, he nodded in the affirmative. What about girl friends?

“I don’t have girlfriends. I have no time to chase women about. I appreciate my wife, Sulia who is very obedient. She is a good woman,” he said.

About the time we go back to Oshodi Terminus, Pius who drove Danfo painted light blue with some level of discipline told the reporter he services it every 2 weeks and pays attention to the special device. He buys a spray regularly from Cosmas Okoli which he uses on the device.
Pius doesn’t want to continue as a Danfo driver, he wishes he gets enough money to start off some other businesses particularly auto parts sales once he finishes paying for the Danfo which he bought on hire purchase.

Letter From Sheikh Of Borno To Sultan Mohammed Bello

Dated 23rd of Rabee-ul-thani, 1238; (Corresponding to January, 1824)
Praise be to God, and prayers and peace be unto the Apostle of God (Mohammed).
To the honoured and accomplished, the virtuous and munificent, the pattern of goodness and the standard of benevolence, head of the Soodanic kingdom, and ruler of the country of Hausa, our friend, the learned Mohammed Bello, son of the intelligent Sheikh Ossman, whose soul may God shelter with the clouds of mercy and peace.
Our salutation, accompanied with affection as strong as the odour of musk, and as perpetual as the movement of the globe, and with the mercy and blessings of God, be unto you.
Hence, the cause of writing this letter and the purpose of its lines, is to acquaint you that the bearers are English travellers; whose nation, out of all the other Christians, has maintained with the Mooslemeen uninterrupted treaties of religious amity and friendship, established since ancient periods, which they inherited from their forefathers and ancestors; and on this account, they penetrate into Mooslemeen countries whenever they please, and traverse all provinces and lands in confidence and trust, without fear. They came to our country, sent to us by our virtuous and accomplished friend, the Lord Yousuf Pasha, master of Tripoli, to see and delight themselves with the wonders of the Land of Soodan, and to become acquainted with its rarities, as lakes, rivers, and forests (or gardens) ; equal to which are seldom seen in other countries.
After having accomplished their wishes, in seeing all the things that the land of Barnooh (Borno) and its environs contained, they felt anxious to visit your country from what they heard of the innumerable wonders therein. I have, therefore, permitted them to proceed on their journey, accompanying them with letters which explain their object.
You are well aware of what is stated in Alcoraanic sayings upon the subject of the obervance of honour, dictated by our Lord, the Apostle of God; and that the true Mooslemeen have always avoided shedding the blood of Christians, and assisted and protected them with their honour. Be then attentive to these travelers, and cast them not into the corners of neglect; let no one hurt them, either by words or deeds, nor interrupt them with any injurious behaviour: but let them return to us, safe, and may the high God bestow upon you the best reward for your treatment to them, and insure to us and to you the path of righteousness for conduct in this life.

How Bride & Groom Escaped Death Immediately After Wedding Reception

According to Punch,a bride narrowly escaped death in an auto crash while on her way from her wedding. The accident involving a NNPC  tanker with number plate XG 321 MKA, a cargo truck and two saloon cars happened at about 4: 45pm on Saturday, close to the Otedola bridge, Alausa, on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
Our reporter who witnessed the accident said the NNPC truck, while descending the slop from Alausa at top speed, could not hold its break. It then ran into the first car and squashed the second one against the cargo truck.The bride and her husband were said to have jumped out of their car.
When our reporter got to the scene of the accident, the groom was no where in sight. The groom’s elder sister who spoke to our repoter while cuddling her baby explained that they were just coming from the wedding reception of the couple.
She was seen kneeling down and thanking God for their escape but refused to give the name of the couple.

Nigeria May Lose $460bn To Climate Change In 2020

If urgent steps are not taken to check environmental degradation in Nigeria, the country may lose about $460 billion to climate change by 2020 and may be exposed to a gross domestic product loss of between 2% and 11%.
This was disclosed by the Executive Director, Women Environmental Programme, WEP, Mrs. Priscilla Achakpa, during a two-day capacity building workshop organized by WEP in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment, for Extension Service Officers held in Makurdi, Benue State capital.
She noted that findings by relevant agencies indicated that the development posed a threat to the efforts of government to boost food production in the country and the actualization of the Vision 20:20 20 of the Federal Government.
Achakpa, who was represented by Mr. George Akor, a Director in the Programme, maintained that “the best way to reach farmers with climate change information is by developing capacity of Agricultural Extension Service Officers in interpreting and communicating climate change information to rural farmers including women.”
According to her, the negative impact of climate change on countries in Africa remains huge despite the fact that the continent contributes little to global greenhouse emissions.
“This situation calls for concerted effort by all relevant agencies and governments to ensure that the impact of climate change on Nigeria is mitigated,” she stressed.

Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke has emerged the winner of the Academy for Entrepreneurial Studies’ Best Governor Award for 2013.

The award for transformational leadership was bestowed on Imoke for facilitating rapid infrastructural and human development in Cross River State.
At the 4th Annual CEOs Dinner/Awards Nite, held at the Golden Gate Restaurant, Ikoyi, Lagos, President of AES, Dr. Ausbeth Ajagu, said Imoke emerged winner after a verification exercise involving visitation to the 36 states to assess developmental strides of the governors.
The governor, who delivered a lecture on the theme: “Peace as a Panacea for national development”, thanked the organizers for the award.

NOA Organises National Youth Summit In Abuja

As part of the end-of-the-year festivities and its efforts at preparing youths for leadership, National Orientation Agency (NOA) is organizing a National Youth Summit in Abuja.
Speaking on the summit, Director General of the Agency, Mr. Mike Omeri, noted the daily socio-economic and cultural problems that confront the Nigerian youth and said the NOA was poised to reposition them to overcome those challenges as well as prepare them for potential leadership.
The summit, under the theme: Rebuilding National Image: The Role of Nigerian Youth, is expected to be addressed by government functionaries including the Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, Special Adviser on Youth Affairs to the President, Jude Imagwe, and Director General, National Sports Commission. Sports stars like Kanu Nwankwo and Folorunsho Okenla will also make presentations at the event.
According to Omeri, the objectives of the youth parley are to sustain attitudinal change among the youth, improve national image, raise integrity among the youth and harness the creative energies of the youth among others.

ICPC Prosecutes 11 Visa Scam Suspects

11 alleged visa scam suspects have been charged before a High Court of Lagos State, Ikeja Division by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), for offences related to forgery of documents for the procurement of visas at various embassies.
The arrests and prosecution came as the ICPC continued its crackdown on persons bent on bringing the country into disrepute, according to a statement from the anti-graft body who arraigned others arrested over similar offences in Abuja last week.
The accused include Chukwu Daniel Okoro, Sylvester Sunday Aghaonu, Emmanuel Uchenna Okeke, Adline Ifeyinwa Ekekalu, Philomena Nwanorue, Okwara Chidera Oscar, and Kennedy Nwosu. Others are: Ntiedo Uyoata Sampson, Ataine Helen Bando, Samuel Okechukwu Obiakor and Alimi Segun.
The suspects are facing charges for allegedly submitting the following forged documents: Letter of introduction, WAEC statement of result, bank statement of account, sponsorship letter, company registration certificate and medical reports to enable them obtain visas.

I woke up one morning and I was greeted on the internet with ‘Chidinma and s*x tape’. I was worried primarily because of my mother. I didn’t let her see the video but I had to show her the photos. I didn’t want to go out that day. I couldn’t go out. But my mum felt otherwise. She told me to ignore the mischief makers.
I almost took some actions but I thought against it. I met Sound Sultan on a set. He told me, ‘Babe, you are now a star. I welcome you officially into the industry.’ I trended for three days. Even people who didn’t know me got to know me. My fan base grew. And then, I was happy because more than 90 per cent of the public didn’t believe I was the one in that video.
There were people who didn’t need to see the video to believe I couldn’t have done such thing.
I am just grateful to everyone who didn’t believe the story. My twitter account was hacked and the people created another account. They kept releasing nasty pictures and they were even responding to the tweets as if I was the one doing it. I was just watching and laughing. It put me in the spotlight. I used it for good.

About the role of the scandal in current carrier

Ever since I started, I have been scared of scandals. I didn’t want to have any. But I realized that I cannot run away from it. It is just normal. It is not everybody who is happy seeing me rise. Some people are trying to do something to stop me. But s*x tape is not enough to stop me. They should bring up something else.
The s*x tape just took me to another level in my career. It moved me up. This is no more ‘little’ Chidinma. It didn’t bring me down in any way. I am still doing a lot of things.

About marriage

Everybody wants to marry me but I am not ready for marriage. I still have to make more money before I consider marriage. I have been linked with so many people. People cannot imagine me being a saint. They are just looking for something to attach to me.
