Everton Closes In On Lukaku’s Permanent Move
Everton are close to signing Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku on a permanent deal, the BBC Sports reports.
The Goodison Park club have called a news conference for 7:00pm on Wednesday, at which a confirmation of the deal thought to worth a club-record £23.7m is expected to be made.
Lukaku has played the last two season away from Stamford Bridge, and the ‘Blues’, who have bought Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid for £32m and welcomed back Didier Drogba on a free transfer, are willing to part with the Belgian.
The 21-year-old striker scored 16 goals on loan at Merseyside last season, as Everton finished fifth and reached Europe for the first time in five years.
His performance for the Toffees earned him a place in Belgium’s World Cup squad in Brazil, where he made four appearances and scored a goal.
Lukaku, who joined Chelsea from Anderlecht in August 2011 for £18m, scored 17 goals in 38 games for West Brom in the 2012/13 season when the club recorded their highest ever Premier League finish of eighth.
Chelsea already released Cameroonian Samuel Eto’O and sold Demba Ba to Besiktas for £4.7m in the close season.
